L A C E R A T E is an adaptation of Roland Barthes’ text A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments. The piece, which exist in two forms of single screen and multi, explores the nuance present in conventional understandings of love as understood from romcoms, love is.. comics, and personal and collective experience. The work features eleven fragments, which drop in on common instances of lovers and examines them in expressionistic and minimal ways. By combining the original text from Barthes with stylized expressionistic gestures of these lovers and loved objects at work, L A C E R A T E brings the source text alive in an arresting and new way.
